Who Can Join?

Membership is voluntary and open to all South Africans aged 16 and older who subscribe to the mission of BCM.

How Do I Apply?

Membership is obtained through a formal application process and completing a membership form. BCM reserves the right to approve or decline membership applications.

One Party Only

Dual membership in other political organizations is strictly prohibited.

What Will Be Expected of Me?

Members are primarily organised into ward-based branches. Your fundamental responsibility is to help organise and mobilise communities to join the movement. For BCM to achieve its objectives, every member is expected to participate actively in its activities.

What Are My Rights as a Member?

• To elect and to be elected to any office of BCM at any level.
• To elect and to be elected to any Committee of BCM at all levels.
• To criticise any shortcomings in BCM at its meetings when there are due reasons and grounds.
• To attend in person meetings of BCM that discuss and pass decisions on your activities and work.
• To request the Committee of BCM at all levels, up to and including the National Council, to consider any questions or petitions.
• To freely take part in discussions on the work and policies of BCM.

Membership Fees

Fees are determined from time to time by the National Council on the basis of proposals from the Treasurer-General, after consultation with the Finance Committee. The current membership fee is R20.00 per year, with options for 1 year, 2 years, or 5 years. Fees are payable to the bank account indicated on the application form.

Membership Declaration

“I join the Bophuthatswana Civil Movement with the full understanding that membership is a solemn political responsibility, not a pathway to personal gain or entitlement. I commit to abiding by the BCM Constitution, Code of Conduct, and Principles. I acknowledge that failure to do so may result in the termination of my membership.”

There are many ways to support the movement beyond formal membership:

• Volunteer with your local branch.
• Attend Local Meetings in your ward or constituency.
• Join the Youth Leadership Collective (NYLC) — for young South Africans ready to lead.
• Join the Student Leadership Collective (SLC) — for students building the next generation of leadership.
• Join the Women’s Leadership Collective (WLC).
• Join the Men’s Forum.
• Support Community Programmes through your local branch.
• Connect with Your Local Branch in your constituency.

The Men’s Forum

The Men’s Forum is a new BCM initiative where men are given a chance and space to engage in self-introspection concerning their role in society; construct their role in eradicating gender-based violence and inequality; become advocates for issues affecting men in society, such as gangsterism, gender-based violence, and other social ills; and discuss the factors driving violence in communities, the negative role of drugs and alcohol, and effective interventions to these issues.

Organisations Wishing to Affiliate

BCM permits affiliation from like-minded political, community, religious, traditional, and civic organisations. The National Leadership Collective (NLC) is responsible for developing the framework and guidelines for such affiliations.
